Newly appointed Technical Consultant / Advisor for Sun Rubber & Sun Tyre

The Group Chairman and CEO of Sun Organisation is pleased to announce the appointment of Marion Pang Chai Loh as Technical Consultant for Sun Rubber Industry Sdn Bhd & Sun Tyre Industries Sdn Bhd to further strengthen the quality of the products, to improves the competitiveness in terms of productivity & cost for the company.

Mr.Loh Pang Chai was a Senior Officer from the Malaysian Rubber Board & was the Senior Research Officer before his retirement from Malaysian Rubber Board on 8th December 2007.

His career with Malaysian Rubber Board spanned a total of 32 years. It began in 1972 when he obtained a scholarship from the then Malaysian Rubber Board Fund for a 3 year degree course leading to an award of a B.Sc ( Hon ) in Polymer Science and Technology from National College of Rubber Technology, United Kingdom in July 1975. He joined the Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia ( RRIM ) on 1st August 1975 as a research officer with the Specification and Technology Division.

His earliest projects are concerned with rubber compounding, processing studies on mixing, extrusion and calendering. In 1977 he was sent to India for a 4 months practical training in tyre fabrication, to prepare for installation of tyre fabrication machineries and testing equipment under the Asean Tyre Project in 1978. He was put in charge of tyre building & testing equipment under the Asian Tyre Project 1978. He was put in charge of tyre building & testing machines and work with other fellow research officers to design, build and test car and truck tyres.

In 1980 he was appointed as a group leader of the newly formed Tyre & Retreading Group and worked on various major topics on tyres, including ( 1 ) High Stearic Acid formulation ( 2 ) Expoxidised NR – Car tyre inner liner, tyre tread ( 3 ) truck tube, tube valves ( 4 ) NR in car tyre tread ( 5 ) Truck Precured Retread , ( 6 ) Tyre rolling resistance, wet skid, tread wear, ( 7 ) service testing.

Mr.Loh Pang Chai was a joint co-ordinator of a UNIDO project on “ Development of Natural Rubber –based Truck Tyre Retreading Compounds “ from 1989 – 1992. Its aims were ( 1 ) to increase competitiveness of NR and extend its range of applications ( 2) to increase co-operative efforts among NR producing countries. ( 3 ) to encourage increased production of NR by strengthening technical & economic position of NR.

In the area of Standard & Quality, Mr. Loh Pang Chai was Chairman of SIRIM / MRB SWO ( Standard Writing Organization ) technical committee on new tyres, retreaded tyres, inner tubes, test methods, measurement methods, terms and nomenclature, spanning from 1978 – 2007 . He was among the pioneering group of ISO 9000 technical auditor since 1988, and secretary of MRB audit committee from 1999 – 2006.

He received 2 RRIM Best Paper Awards in 1986 and 1988. In 1992 he was awarded the MRRDB Pingat Emas for excellent service performance.

Mr.Loh Pang Chai was actively involved with A5 programme in LGM ( Improving Productivity, Efficiency and Quality if Rubber Products Manufacturing in Malaysia ) This project adopted a “hands on” approach reviewing manufacturing facilities, addressing waste, do it right the first time and housekeeping .

In 2001 Mr.Loh Pang Chai joined the Rubber Product Testing Unit, as Technical Manager of Trye Testing Laboratory, until his retirement in December 2007. he was given a 1 year contract as research fellow ( Malaysian Rubber Board. On 31st December 2008 he completed his 1 year extension and on 1st April 2009 he joined Sun Rubber Industry Sdn Bhd & Sun Tyre Industries Sdn Bhd as Technical Advisor ).

Sun Rubber is a well established rubber compound manufacturer in Malaysia. The company has been established since 1957. From a humble beginning, the company has grown to be the market leader in the manufacturing of rubber compound for tyre retreading industries.

The products that Sun Rubber produces are such as Precured Tread Liner, Cushion Gum, Gum Cord, Orbitread, Camelback, Compound and Masterbatches for use on retread tyres and further the company also produces technical rubber compound for the automotive industries.

Sun Rubber currently export its products to over 30 countries worldwide includes Europe, Middle East, Africa, Japan, Australia, Hongkong, Taiwan and Singapore.

Sun Tyre who is the sister company of Sun Rubber produces a wide range of retread tyres from light truck size, to truck tyre size & OTR tyre sizes & further more the company is the largest producer in Malaysia.

Sun Tyre is also the 1st retread tyre company in Malaysia that has obtained the product certification license MS 224:2005 and also the 1st in Malaysia that register with SIRIM-QAS under the product certification license scheme for Malaysia Standard, specification for Retreaded Pneumatic Rubber Tyres for Passenger Car and Commercial Vehicles.
